Luckily it is old news that schools should only serve the purpose for parting knowledge.  At LIPSCHULE, we don’t only use participatory elements in our lessons. We encourage opinion-forming and proactively give the children and youth the opportunity to express their own views.

As we see LIPSCHULE as a practice area for later in life, we ensure that we offer ideal conditions for an open exchange. This includes our students learning how to set clear boundaries when it comes to closeness and distance. They are regularly called on to participate in the discourse and all have a say. Students who acquire skills to conduct constructive conversations in a familiar setting are more likely to use these skills outside in the future.

Additionally, we provide our students with various communication channels and discuss current events as well as long-running social issues. This allows us to take their different levels of knowledge into account and ensures that each child can contribute in some way, shape or form which suits the child best. It allows them to speak about the matters that he/she is most informed of or about topics he/she would like to learn more about.

In the secondary school, we even dedicate a project week to this topic. The motto being, “I –We – Society” we deal with, among other things, the democratic principle and opportunities for participation that individuals have in it. If you are interested in how this works and want to find out more, we look forward to your call at +41 44 480 08 80 or a message at  lip@lipschule.ch.
