Cycle 2 (3rd to 6th grade of primary school and transitional year)

In Cycle 2 (grades 3 to 6 of primary school) and the transitional year, we create the prerequisites to enable our students to cope with the demands of today’s society. Providing individual support is a constant priority. We also teach our students to accept their share of responsibility for their own learning progress and to respect the rules of a community. This way we not only quench their thirst for knowledge, but also help them to develop their own personality. Multilingualism is a further reason for choosing our private day school, where German and English are the everyday and teaching languages. And as is fitting for a modern educational institution, new media are a fixed part of our curriculum. Every child has access to their own tablet, for instance.

mittelstufe privatschule lipschule zürich

We follow a clear pedagogical concept and use competence-oriented assessment to give students in grades 3 to 6 of primary school the best start along an educational path that will challenge them.

The pedagogical approach in Cycle 2 (3rd to 6th grade of primary school and transitional year)

School is meant to be a place where young people learn how to prepare themselves for the adult world. This is why we see our mandate as more than just imparting knowledge: we also help learners to strengthen their personalities. Accepting personal responsibility is a major part of this: our students are given the freedom to choose from among a range of set learning objectives after consulting with their teachers. The latter monitor student progress on a regular basis. And they make sure that the material has really been understood and not just reproduced.

Modern teaching methods for a successful future

We also factor the fast-changing demands of today’s professional world into our performance assessments. In the 3rd and 6th grades at primary level and in the transition year, we measure target attainment with the help of competency scales based on Curriculum 21. This way we encourage our students to test their limits, as these often prove to be much higher than they think. This cements their confidence in their own abilities.

The code of conduct at our private school

Thanks to clearly formulated rules, the pupils at LIPSCHULE Zurich are always aware of what is expected of them. Conversely, they also know what they can expect of their teachers. This provides pupils with reliable directions for navigating everyday school life. We also attach great importance to mutual cooperation. It is generally accepted that if you feel comfortable in your environment, this will impact positively on your achievements.

Respectful interaction as a guiding principle

Our private day school is not bound by religious beliefs or those of any other ideology. Instead we propagate tolerance and openness in interactions with diverse cultures and religions. We also hold mediation and dispute resolution sessions for our students to learn how to deal with conflict situations.
