On May 6. 2021, SRF played the documentary film «Mein Leben und der Notenschnitt» ( My Life and the Grade Point Average), a topic that has been close to our hearts for a long time: The disadvantages of the classic grading system for assessing a student’s performance. This is the reason why over ten years ago we decided to change to a solution- and competence orientated method.

The report followed four six graders whom were close to transitioning from primary school to secondary school or gymnasium. An important time, as it is about your future school career. Even though they all had different strengths and weaknesses, they all had one thing in common; They all suffer from being completely put down to their grades.

The protagonists do not seem to be individual cases, otherwise the broadcast of the documentary film wouldn’t have had such an impact on the media, parents and teachers. Contrary to previous prejudices, the school performance of our students does not worsen due to the lack of grades but on the contrary. → Ehemalige Sekundarschule.

Wir machen Jugendliche im 3. Zyklus und diejenigen im 10. Schuljahr fit für die Zukunft. Dafür setzen wir auf ungewöhnliche Methoden: Statt separaten Klassenzimmern haben wir eine altersdurchmischte Umgebung eingerichtet, in der unsere Schülerinnen und Schüler über einen persönlichen Arbeitsplatz und ein eigenes Tablet verfügen. Je nach Aufgabenstellungen bilden sich Lerngruppen, unser Schwerpunkt liegt aber auf dem Einzel-Coaching. Dabei konzentrieren sich unsere Lehrpersonen darauf, die jeweiligen Stärken aufzudecken und allfällige Wissenslücken gezielt anzugehen. Sprachliche Vielfalt wird an unserer Schule sowohl im Unterricht als auch in den Pausen gelebt: Wir verständigen uns auf Deutsch, Englisch und Französisch.

In Cycle 2, we create the prerequisites to enable our students to cope with the demands of today’s society. Providing individual support is a constant priority. We also teach our students to accept their share of responsibility for their own learning progress and to respect the rules of a community. This way we not only quench their thirst for knowledge, but also help them to develop their own personality. Multilingualism is a further reason for choosing our private day school, where German and English are the everyday and teaching languages. And as is fitting for a modern educational institution, new media are a fixed part of our curriculum. Every child has access to their own tablet, for instance.

→ 3. bis 6. Klasse Primarschule und Verbindungsjahr.

Im 2. Zyklus schaffen wir die Voraussetzungen dafür, dass die uns anvertrauten Kinder den Anforderungen der heutigen Gesellschaft gerecht werden können. Die individuelle Förderung steht dabei immer im Vordergrund. Darüber hinaus bringen wir unseren Schülerinnen und Schülern bei, die Verantwortung für ihren Lernerfolg mitzutragen und die Spielregeln einer Gemeinschaft zu respektieren. Damit stillen wir nicht nur ihren Wissensdurst, sondern unterstützen auch ihre Persönlichkeitsbildung. Ein weiteres Argument für unsere private Tagesschule ist die Mehrsprachigkeit, weil die Unterrichts- und Umgangssprachen Deutsch und Englisch sind. Und wie es sich für ein modernes Bildungsinstitut gehört, sind die neuen Medien ein fester Bestandteil unseres Lehrplans. So kann zum Beispiel jedes Kind auf ein eigenes Tablet zurückgreifen.

We believe that the principles of the Montessori educational method are invaluable, especially at a young age. This is because children aged 3 to 9 years are full of energy and have a virtually unquenchable thirst for knowledge. These are ideal prerequisites when it comes to helping them develop more initiative. In our Montessori kindergarten and Montessori school, we teach in German and English, always taking account of students’ cognitive, musical and creative abilities as well as their social skills. This allows them to learn about different forms of communication and cultures through play. We also ensure they get enough physical activity to burn off surplus energy. All this not only has a positive impact on their future school careers, but also throughout their entire later lives.

Wir glauben daran, dass die Prinzipien der Montessori-Pädagogik vor allem in jungen Jahren von unschätzbarem Wert sind. Denn Kinder zwischen 3 und 9 Jahren verfügen über grossen Tatendrang und einen schier unstillbaren Wissensdurst. Ideale Voraussetzungen also, um ihnen frühzeitig zu mehr Eigeninitiative zu verhelfen.
