Visionary and architect of modern learning spaces
Nelly has always thought about learning in a holistic way and beyond boundaries. With inexhaustible creativity, she actively drove school development forward: she developed competency profiles based on Lehrplan 21, helped shape the reorganization of the Lip into the three cycles, including the corresponding room concepts, and strengthened interdisciplinary learning field work. Dialogue with parents was also close to her heart: with the “Pädagogischer Salon,” she created an uncomplicated forum for discussing educational priorities over the years.
The adventure of learning: Zurich as a classroom
There was hardly a learning area that Nelly ever taught the same way twice. She was constantly inspired by current exhibitions, because “learning through experiences” shaped her everyday teaching. Thanks to her extensive network, the devoted Zurich city resident turned the entire city into a living learning space. Whether on discovery tours to unfamiliar places or on regular cultural classics such as visits to the Tonhalle, Nelly took the children on countless journeys and adventures that stayed with them.
Always present, always approachable
Although she achieved a great deal strategically, in everyday school life Nelly was above all one thing: extremely present and approachable for people. Whether the very youngest children or the teenagers in the school, everyone knew Nelly and knew that her door was always open for worries, ideas, or concerns. With her curiosity and her talent for asking exactly the right questions, she supported and encouraged the children individually. She never lost her own enthusiasm for learning: after two decades at the Lip, she trained further as a relational coach and, in recent years, successfully built up the Focus offering.
